I want a President who.... ten qualities and characteristics

what I want in a president, McCain, obama, how to pick a president, pick a president, who is better, what do you want in a president
As the citizens of the United States of America face an upcoming election we are noticing quite a nasty election filled with nonsense and misleading even deceptive claims as various leaders vie for the highest office in our land.

Believing that the more we hold in our hearts and minds a vision of what we want and where we want to go, the more we will move to that reality, I hold a vision of the kind of leader I want for my Country.

Here are ten qualities and characteristics I would like to see in a President:

1. I want a President whose basic conduct and behavior is exemplary and beyond criticism; a leader who is honest and filled with integrity and decency.

2. I want a President who surrounds her or himself with other knowledgeable, informed, and truly decent human beings.

3. I want a President who, as we move into the twenty-first century holds a clear vision of what is possible for our Country's future.

4. I want a President who cherishes our constitution and the ideals of our founders including freedom and equality for all.

5. I want a President who is aware of, and understands the daily and diverse challenges we all face, including the struggles of our economny, improved education, health care needs, etc.

6. I want a President who is knowledgeable and informed about world affairs; the current difficulties as well as those that lie ahead for our planetary family.

7. I want a President who cares about our Earth, its inhabitants and the future of our human existence.

8. I want a President who is respectful of the many cultures, races, religions, belief systems, faith traditions, and philosophies of our human population.

9. I want a President who doesn't make decisions for her or his own self-aggrandization or ego, or to pad the pockets of his or her friends, but who bases decisions on what is best for our country.

10. I want a President who can lead our country with honor, who can restore hope for the future; one who holds a vibrant vision of peace and prosperity for all.

While obviously I would love to have a President who reflects and embraces my personal opinions of the various issues, and it would be wonderful to have those in power match my ideals and beliefs in all cases, but more than this I want our President to be a visionary, a decent person who reflects honor and goodness.

Lets vote!

With the risk of disappointing you very much: You have a beautiful dream. I doubt that both candidates have any of the 10 things you express. The world would be already on a better way if they had only one or two of your list.

Hi Jen,

Very nice post, but I tend to agree with peter worldman (above)....

The candidate you're asking for cannot be found in this world. Try the next buddha world!

You are an optimist, a dreamer (in the good sense), and we need more like you.

So if YOU stand for President sometime, you'll get my vote for sure...except that I can't vote in the United States, of course! :P

I can vote in India, but I haven't, till now.

Here is what I think of Indian Politicians and politics...

Based on a comment I wrote on facebook!
_____

The typical political debate/speech in india has the following hackeyned/cliched lines/arguments:

(Substitute 'they' and 'us' or 'we' for anything you want, and you've got the typical indian political debate/speech!)

1.) If elected, we will do this, we will do that. Blah blah.

2.) They didnt do this, they didnt do that. Blah. blah.

3.) We believe in harmony, peace, growth, but they don't.

4.) They have destroyed the very fabric of society through their greed and myopia and corruption!

5.) The poor farmer suffers as they sleep and enjoy their corrupt money!

6. ) Not just the poor man or farmer, just look at the horrible condition of the man on the road, the middle class man, he is riddled with debt and overworked! See what they have done!

6.) Ever since they came into power, the economy has slipped. Prices have skyrocketed! Growth has stopped!

7.) See what they have done with the foreign policy!

8.) We are NOT hungry for power, we only want to serve you!

9) XYZ said..'This great country...blah blah..'

(Substitute XYZ with the name of some famous leader, but ONLY a leader who is LIKED by your vote banks!)

Love your new blog template. Looks really nice.

Vikram

Jen,
Great list. I echo what you have said and I believe number 9 would be at the top of my wants.

Hey Jen,
Well, I am OUTVOTED here...(pun intended)I believe we will see in people what we are looking for. Hopefully you will see what you need in at least one of them. :-) PS. You are a dreamer of higher conscious behavior, and it's only through dreaming we will see change. Sweet dreams.

Jen,
As Otto Von Bismarck (not someone I usually quote) famously said, "Politics is the art of the possible." That goes a long way toward explaining why any politician you can name, past or present, seems to have so few of the traits on your list. That doesn't mean we shouldn't hold them to the highest standards, it just means that we will almost always have to settle for something less, and it may not always be entirely the politician's fault.

I do like your list. Whichever candidate wins this election, I hope he at least makes an attempt at living up to a few of those ideals. Send the winner a link to your blog, I'm confident it will have a positive impact.

Hi Jennifer!

I want a leader who is enlightened. I wish the Dalai Lama wouldn't mind moving here. ;)

I will vote this election, one of the candidates frightens me to the core. The other, well... he's not enlightened or even near that.

I get we are in perfect times for us. We have a lot of learning coming twords us right now.

Love and Light Beautiful Jennifer, very good post.

Hi Peter,

I totally admit I am a dreamer. (smile)

But hey, if we don't dream we are going to be stuck!

I'm holding to the idea that without a vision we won't move forward.

OK, so it may be a way off...

LOL!

Lots of love to you, I hope you are well!

Hi Vikram... LOL!

OK, so if I run for president I can count on you for a vote... even though it won't count! LOL!

Sounds great!

I'm just thinking if we are clear on what we want, we will at the very least move toward it.

As I said to Peter, it may take a while but hey... we gotta start somewhere!

:-)

Hugs Vikram... thanks for everything,

Jen

Hey Harmony...

LOL... I'm thinking you are a dreamer too! :-)

I'll admit that sometimes it is difficult to not see the not-so-good (smile), but I do think you are right! We find what we are looking for.

So, I'm REALLY looking here! ;-)

XO,

Jennifer

Hey Eric,

Thanks for sharing this quote, and your insight.

I have contemplated this and do think there is something very powerful in the need for humankind to have a leader and as you suggest the one we want may not actually have the qualities we think we want. (If that makes sense).

We pick leaders, NOT based on their achievements but on our feelings and so much of this has to do with impressions not positions.

Again, indicating that in free elections, as throughout history, our leaders reflect some basic, perhaps primitive or unenlightened need.

So, my post was to help me move out of the primitive brain into a more conscious place.

Not sure it worked but at least I'm trying! LOL!

I hope you are well Eric... big hugs,

Jen

Hi dear Monica,

Ohhh I love your positive approach... "we have lots of learning coming toward us"! Nice!

Way to look at the glass half full!

:-)

Yeah, I'd vote for the Dahli Lama too!

LOL!

Love to you dear Monica,

Jen
