Our Violent Society

our violent society, goodness graciousness, deadly shooting
This morning, not far from my home, over thirty innocent people were shot to death in the most deadly shooting in the history of our country.

My heart is filled with sorrow.

Tragedies of this magnitude remind us that life is precious, unpredictable, and often fleeting.

They also bring to our awareness the realization that our world is out of harmony, that our society is in many ways unhealthy, and that we need to make changes and find solutions to our problems.

My hope is that out of this horrific sorrow, we may realize the magnitude of violence that is accepted and even celebrated in our society.

That rather than focusing on blame, we may each, in our own way evaluate our lives and move beyond violence, control, and power, to support and strengthen those working to bring peace and goodness into the world.

That we may individually make choices that remove us from violence as we take a stand stating we will no longer tolerate the explosion and idolization of violence in our society.

Will the death of thirty young people be enough to get us to hear the message?

I pray.

Deepest blessings of love and peace to those who are heartbroken at the loss of their loved ones.

Jen,
Is it just me, or does it seem like these events are increasing not just in intensity, but also frequency?

Hi Dave...

It is not just you. (sigh)

We see a clear trend toward more horrific acts of violence, and we see them intensify.

My sense is, as is most often the case, it will continue to get worse until we reach the limit of what we will tolerate, then we will make changes.

I hope and pray this tragedy is enough of a clue that we must make some changes.

Blessings to you Dave,

Jen

Hi Jen,

Movies, Computer Games, TV Commercials and etc. had greatly influenced the behaviour of many people especially the younger generation. Thus, the increase of violence nowadays! Children thoughts they are the heros playing computer games shooting one another.

There is some value in this quotes: "The only way to clean up the world is for each of us to clean up ourselves."

Hi Jennifer:

Beautiful post. My own thought is that we are becoming (albiet slowly) numb to these types of violent actions. As said above the video games, television etc.

I think that the general public is getting to the point where these things just aren't as shocking as they should be.

To me, personally - the shock is so intense to my foundation. But I've heard others talk and even joke about the event.

When you view scenes day after day as the media is doing to us, I can't imagine what it is doing to the general public.

Love and Light to you and yours,

Mon

Hi Sam.... I so agree!

We each need to do everything we can to reduce and eliminate the violence.

It is the only way!

Thank you for this!

Hi Monica...

I'm happy to have you and thank you for sharing your insight.

I agree with you. We are inundated with violence in the media, and it is certainly taking its toll.

I worry for the children... unless we are vigilent they will grow up not even knowing what is peace.

Blessings and love to you,

Jen
